AOL’s board has approved a previously announced plan to let go of over 2,300 staff members, nearly 1/3 of its workforce, in an effort to cut spending by $200 million… Hawaii Governor Linda Lingle has proposed an additional 700 job cuts on top of 1,200 already carried out, as part of a $1.2 billion budget cut… American Greetings Corporation will close a plant in Kalamazoo, Mich. and lay off all 225 workers after forming an alliance with Amscan Inc… Commercial heating and air-conditioning manufacturer Trane will cut 113 hourly production employees in Clarksville, Tenn… In Cleveland, some 100 police, fire and emergency medical technician workers were given notice… Southeastern Kentucky Rehabilitation Industries, Inc. will “temporarily” lay off 80 staffers while the company waits for a renewal contract from the government… Ball Corporation Metal Container Beverage Group anticipates having to lay off up to 50 workers in 2010 due to “a decline in demand for 12 ounce cans”… Warrensville Heights, Ohio laid off 18 city employees… Commissioners in Licking County, Ohio also approved an “interim” 10.5% budget reduction that calls for the elimination of 17 jobs… Covidien is set to eliminate 11 people at the end of February…
