Contest: The Recession Will End… When YOU Say So

For about four months, we’ve given you our take on the recession’s end with a focus ranging from economist forecasts, impact to on your lives like health insurance and college tuition, and recession trends like staycations and the coupon craze.

After taking you through our thoughts on the recession’s end from many angles, we’re interested to know how you measure the recession’s end in your own life. At a macro level, we’ve been inundated with headlines of housing, unemployment, and other economic analysis and forecasts. In our everyday lives, we’ve felt recession pressures in unique ways and broken down our material needs into necessities, small splurges and sizable sacrifices.

Amid all of this recession hoopla, what will signal the recession’s end for YOU? Is there an index or report that you follow almost religiously? What will be that everyday change that will make you feel that the recession’s over? We want to know!

We’ll award a $35 Amazon gift certificate to one of the entrants in the recession-end contest, picked at random.   3. The recession will end…when a student loan check for the semester actually covers the semester…and, I suppose, when my mom stops worrying. :)

  7. I think it won’t end for a while. I think it is most important to start and think small. Your family, your neighborhood, your city. Concentrate on making small but important progress in the area you can affect the most.

  9. The recession will end in about 18 months. Business will have to tighten their spending more and follow the consumers lead. Excess salaries, excess bonuses, and corporate perks need to be contained. The companies that do will attract new investors.

  10. the recession will end soon. but when it does, I hope that we don’t all start over-consuming everything again. The recession is no fun, but the silver lining is that we waste less stuff, it’s good for the environment.

  18. The recession will end when the middle class feels optimistic again. This implies a few things, like corporate america gets reined in; health care is affordable and universal; less anger in public discourse; quantifiably less war sucking human capital.

  20. Theoretically, the recession is over. However, recovery will take time and it will be different for different sectors. Financial services will most likely recover quickly. Construction and housing, however will lag as they were hit the hardest.

    For me personally, the recession will end when I get a job! I was laid off from my job as marketing executive for a financial services firm. Boo!

  42. The recession ends when unemployment rate stabilizes and credit becomes once again available to people that can pay back. I will notice when the recession is over, when job stop being a privileged and it becomes the old so called obligation. I think Recession will be over before the end of 2010.
