Some Good News: Layoffs at Connecticut  Natural Gas and Southern Connecticut Gas have been avoided. Detroit Mayor Bing is reducing the number of planned layoffs by 78 percent, now laying off 230 city workers instead of upwards of 1,000.

Governor Luis Fortuno announced a possible 22,000 public sector layoffs in Puerto Rico… 300 New York City workers face layoffs today, with more to follow, as a result of Bloomberg’s budget cuts…Capitol Hill Publications will ax 44 newsroom jobs…Boston Medical Center is letting go 40 workers… 24 layoffs loom at a Mansfield Township warehouse… Weinstein Co. is reducing its staff by 30…Anchorage Mayor Dan Sullivan anticipates layoffs in the public service sector… Beaumant Hospitals in Michigan expect more layoffs.
