Screwed: 1,600 at California Department of Corrections

Today’s Total: 1,894

The California Department of Corrections will issue 1,300 new layoff notices in Sacramento, Amador, Fresno and elsewhere…Exterran Holdings Inc. will lay off 274 employees after closing 4 facilities in Texas… Alemite, a grease gun manufacturer in northerneast Tennessee, will lay off 119 workers by November…  Nestaway Wire Company is laying off 116 workers in Carroll County …Elevator maker ThyssenKrupp is cutting 110 positions…  North Clackamas School District is laying off 60 teachers or reducing their positions to part time… The Wisconsin Department of Commerce plans to lay off 15 employees from its safety and buildings division.

Bad news for professionals in the finance industry. More layoff rumors are circulating. The latest reports in the media are at Accenture Ltd. (NYSE:ACN) and J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. (NYSE:JPM).

  • Accenture  is cutting 336 senior-level executive positions, according to the IdahoStatesman.com.
  • SVB Capital cut seven employees from its staff last week, according to PeHub.
  • J.P. Morgan is planning to lay off at least 284 employees in California over the next month, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

However, all is not glum. Some companies have announced they are finished with staff reductions. For instance, after cutting 3,000 jobs, Fidelity Investments is “done” with layoffs, according to Providence Business News.
