In the Gem State, they’re proud not to be using billions in taxpayer dollars to fix their financial bunglings. What a concept. A couple of weeks ago, Tim Oren spotted this ad in Pocatello, Idaho, and posted it on his Due Diligence blog.

Ireland Bank, which was named not for the country but for one of its founders, has 13 branches in the southeastern part of the state. “Founded…in 1892 by the pioneer communities early leading citizens, Ireland Bank has survived depressions, stock market crashes, wars and agricultural disasters,” says its web site. That’s more than we can say for Lehmann, Bear, and some other now-defunct banks who a few years ago would have sneered at locals like Ireland.
