Screwed: 4,000 at American Express

American Express plans to lay off 4,000 employees, in the U.S. and abroad… International Automotive Components has furloughed 133 employees, 110 of which will be permanent layoffs… Stutter Health plans to cut 121 IT positions effective July 17… William Morris Agency (WMA) has begun to cut 100 pisitions… Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems has laid off 100 employees in locations across the country.

thedealMore bad news for bankers and attorneys. The most recent layoff rumors and reports are at Sovereign Bancorp (NYSE:SOV), BlackRock Inc. and Fish & Richardson PC.

  • Sovereign laid off 9% of its workforce, according to the Providence Business Journal.
  • Fish & Richardson, a Boston-based intellectual property law firm, laid off 35 lawyers and 85 support staff, according to The AM Law Daily.
  • BlackRock is apparently doing a round of layoffs this summer, according to Dealbreaker.
