Unfortunately there are more layoff reports at Capital One Financial Corp. (NYSE:COF), PNC Financial Services/National City (NYSE:PNC) and J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. (NYSE:JPM). However, there is some positive news. It looks like layoffs are slowing down. According to Labor Department data, new unemployment claims declined for a fourth straight week to a seasonally 601,000 — the lowest reading since late January. An estimated 491,000 workers were laid off last month, according to ADP Employer Services Wednesday, and another employment report by Challenger, Gray and Christmas on Wednesday showed that U.S. companies planned 132,590 layoffs in April.
It’s rough out there, but there are jobs. Bank of America Corp. (NYSE:BAC)/Merrill Lynch is apparently hiring, according to The Wall Street Journal.
