Want the skinny on launching a media startup? Tomorrow night On April 23, I’ll tell the tale of how Recessionwire started, at the first Life After Digital event in New York. The panel of journalist-entrepreneurs also includes Ty Ahmad-Taylor, founder of FanFeedr, and Thomas P. Farley, founder of New York Insider TV and Brian Farnham, editor of local news start-up Patch. Thanks to the organizer, James Erik Abels, we’ll be discussing our experiences and the opportunities we see in the post-digital era. Admission is FREE—and so are the drinks.
Date: April 23, 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Location: Daylife, 444 Broadway (btw Howard St. & Grant St.), 5th Floor
RSVP: On Facebook
Also, registration begins today for LaidOffCamp NYC (May 1-2, 2009). The event, founded in January by laid-off consultant Chris Hutchins, gathers unemployed and “nontraditionally employed people” (i.e., freelancers and entrepreneurs) to trade ideas and inspiration. So far the free, two-day camps have been held in San Francisco and Dallas. Attendees can expect sessions and panels on topics like living on an extreme budget, building your personal brand and how to be a freelance consultant. Recessionwire will be in the house, offering tips on bartering and other timely topics. More information on LaidOffCamp’s website.
