Invite a bunch of gal-pals over for some 2-buck Chuck wine and appetizers and ask them to bring their closet castoffs. Put them all on display and then let the trading begin! Hopefully everyone winds up with at least one "gem", and whatever is left at the end of the night can get donated to charity. Another idea is to make a party out of it by having a clothing swap. I've shed probably 40% of everything -- clothes, books, gewgaws, unfinished projects ... I digitized and sold every single CD I ever owned!! My stuff went to a yard sale, eBay, Out of the Closet (donation), Crossroads Trading Co. (clothing resale chain), used bookstores and a local chemotherapy center (donation books). I didn't go hary-cary on my stuff; I did it in stages. I pulled and weeded and boxed everything for a while to see if I'd miss it. When in doubt about a clothing piece, turn the hanger to face the wrong way. If in 6 months you haven't worn it (the hanger will still go against the rest), say goodbye!
