GM is laying off 10,000 employees this year…Royal Bank of Scotland is trimming 2,300 positions in the U.K….Wal-Mart is eliminating 700 to 800 jobs at its home offices…G.E. is cutting 350 jobs and temporarily furloughing 1,200 others at its locomotive unit…Publicly traded hedge fund Fortress Investment Group laid off 11 percent of its work force in Q4…Nike is considering 1,400 job cuts…an unknown number of layoffs taking place today at Neuberger Berman…California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is threatening to lay off 10,000 state workers if a new budget isn’t passed this week.
